Tequila what's not to like unless you buy the most popular brand in the USA. You know what I'm talking about it's gold in color, kicks like a mule and tastes like crap. That could be because it isn't very good. For many years it was the only tequila you could find in most places. That is not true any more. Tequila is something you need to test drive like a car. There are now many great varieties on the market. Buy a small bottle until you find the one you like the most. Some tequila's are great for sipping slowly on the rocks their flavors are smooth and rich. Others serve well as a mixer with other ingredients. My rule of thumb in most cases is buy better tequila for shots or on the rocks or even mixed with a single ingredient. However for margaritas a less expensive middle of the road variety will work just fine.
I have a few recommendations but I find unlike most liquors Tequila is very individual depending on your taste. I love, love, love all of the Patron products personally favoring the silver. I tried to purchase Patron when I was in Mexico and was told that Patron is made exclusively for American export, catering to the American palate. If you ask a Mexican they turn their noses up giving it very low marks but check it out yourself.
Next I like Horneto's it's a gold tequila very smooth without the harsh bite I find most gold tequila's end with. It is delicious in a margarita although mid priced also stands up well alone.
Casadores is one of the preferred tequila's among the many Mexicans I have spoken to. It is full bodied and very flavorful. The price is in the mid range making it a great choice to serve at parties.
There are a number of, what are to my taste truly awful tequila's and Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila comes in, in first place. It is followed close behind by Cabo Wabo. The last one not only tastes bad its name is so damn stupid! Today I've put up a few different tequila drinks for you to try I hope you enjoy them! Salute.
